The intensive is a certified course: participants must complete a capstone project to earn the Certificate of Completion. Shumake completed the full program alongside a cohort of technologists, entrepreneurs and researchers.

Shumake PhD completed the Harvard Data Science Initiative (HDSI) Agentic AI Intensive, a 2.5-week program that ran June 9–25, 2026, earning a Certificate of Completion from Harvard Data Science Review (verification code UTHW-KVJS). His required capstone rebuilt the Harvard curriculum for entrepreneurs in Africa and incarcerated people in the United States, and became the Smart Money Black AI Executive Program.

The project
Rather than an internal business use case, his capstone studied the Harvard HDSI curriculum and rebuilt it for communities that will never have access to Harvard — entrepreneurs across Africa and incarcerated people in the American prison system. Not everyone can go to Harvard; everyone deserves access to the education Harvard provides.

The distribution
Free AI courses are being deployed through his seven religious universities to communities across Africa, and to federal prisoners through the Sacred Study Beyond Walls program — Harvard-level AI education at no cost to the people furthest from it.

Smart Money Black AI Executive Program
A four-week course with a personal AI Executive Coach, delivering the Harvard agentic-AI methodology to Black business owners with no technical background required.
The launch
Launching at the National Business League's 126th Annual Conference, August 19–22, 2026, at the Hilton Atlanta Hotel — theme: Economic Sovereignty. Shumake presents to more than 1,000 Black business owners across two days.
Smart Money Black was created after Shumake acquired and republished Smart Money Magazine (founded by The Wall Street Journal / Dow Jones) and Business 2.0 (founded by Time Inc.), in partnership with the National Business League — founded by Booker T. Washington in 1900.

Began as a janitor at a Detroit Ford auto plant, spending three years listening to business audiobooks while pushing a mop cart — the story told in his Amazon #1 bestseller Climbing Your Inner Mountain: Ten Steps to Reaching Any Goal (Take the Land Publishing, 2013).
First three years in real estate
Earned $194,000 in year one, $600,000 in year two and one million dollars in year three after leaving Ford.
2011 — Black Enterprise BE100s
Black Enterprise ranked his firm, Inheritance Capital Group L.L.C. of Southfield, Michigan, tenth nationally among the largest Black-owned private equity firms, with $200 million under management across two funds — figures independently verified by KBL L.L.P., CPAs. The ranking placed him directly below RLJ Equity Partners and eight places below Vista Equity Partners.
2026 — Harvard HDSI
Applies the same self-directed learning methodology that carried him from the factory floor to the Black Enterprise list, this time to artificial intelligence.
